16th August 2013 - Senior Citizens National Protest Day

All India Senior Citizens Confederation (AISCCON) along with several state and national level bodies has been observing 16th August as Senior citizens National Protest Day for the past three years.

The objective of the Senior citizens National Protest Day has been to draw the attention of all sections of the society and public institutions that can ensure welfare of senior citizens like, state and central governments, politicians, ministers, bureaucrats, media, youth, senior citizens associations, NGOs, ordinary citizens of the country and senior citizens themselves.

Success Foundation, an NGO and its dedicated initiative for senior citizens, Silvers Unlimited has been working relentlessly for the welfare of senior citizens in an around Navi Mumbai. With the help of other senior citizens associations, clubs and federations like Success Foundation, several activities have been carried out which have managed to spread awareness about the problems plaguing senior citizens all over the country.

The time has come for us to shake up the system and the leaders of the nation,so that they come up with definite laws and mechanisms that ensure the welfare of the senior citizens.
Enough of knocking on the doors of government offices that do not open! Enough of letters to the government officials that never reach their desk! Enough of begging for the right to lead a life of dignity and respect!

Lets go and get what the senior citizens of the country deserve.

Support Senior Citizens - Ensure A Better Tomorrow

Have you ever thought what you would do once you retire?

I’m sure many among you would have started investing in pension funds, real estate, mutual funds, health care, insurance and various other investment schemes. Most investment agents would have told you about the likely monthly returns you would be getting from your investments after your retirement.

You would have made some calculations yourself and must have planned for a long vacation on a cruise with your wife after your retirement. Some might have planned for the marriages of your unborn daughters and sons while some might have started planning for a road trip on a caravan truck.

God Willing, most of your dreams would come true and with so many thousands in safe investments you are sure to lead a relaxed retired life.

While you rejoice in the happiness of leading a safe retired life do a recap and think, “Have you forgotten something that you think would help you in the loneliness of your retirement?”

Have you ever had flashes of an old man/woman smiling at you whenever you think of your old age? If your answer is ‘Yes’ then most probably the person you see is either your grandfather or your grandmother.

Today many among us must have been brought up in nuclear families away from the warm bosoms of our beloved grandparents and it is quite possible that our parents might have moved away from our grandparents in search of greener pastures.

Have you ever thought how your grandparents might be doing without the emotional and physical support of their kids? Though we have technology that enables our parents and grandparents to speak to each other at any time, do you think it fills the vacuum left by the physical absence?

The whole point behind this constant rhetoric is to encourage you to spare a thought for those lonely souls who are spending their days and nights waiting for either death to kill them or a smiling face and a helping hand that can restore their youth to them.

You can be the one with the smiling face and the helping hand. You can be the one who can be the stick to support the elderly. You can be the one who can voice their concerns. You can be the force multiplier for that group of people who are neglected by the government, society and their own children. You can be the one who makes the difference.

It has been a long time since we first started discussing the rights of the elderly but to date, not much has been done. If we don’t do something for senior citizens’ rights, right now, then this status quo will hurt us too when our time comes.

To secure a better future for ourselves and to ensure a joyous present for our grandparents and parents lets join the protest for the rights of the 11 Crore senior citizens of the country, which includes our grandparents as well, at Azad Maidan, Mumbai on 16th August, 2013 between 9 AM to 6 PM.

Lets get our beloved senior citizens their rights and earn their blessings, which we would need badly when we spend those lonely days and nights on the reclining chair, years from now.
